“There is no singular definition of femininity. Words like “tomboy” or “girly girl” do not apply to our postmodern world. There is no singular definition of beauty. You are a fluid being with the capacity to create your own definition of Being, so do it. There is no singular definition of you. Whatever you do, defend yourself against those who wish to destroy your spirit. They call you names, they stamp labels on your forehead, and they can make you bleed. But only You can define yourself.”

Heather Nelson is a Bay Area artist with a fascination for pugs, Lisbeth Salander, and the macabre.

Original ‘The Fear Girl’s’ Feature of Shramana Patra

Featured Artists & Art on Tumblr!

This week, instead of our usual Featured Artist post, we’re introducing another branch of The Fear Girls – a tumblr. The tumblr will act as an expansion of the idea behind Featured Artist posts, and include more art than our current once-per-week posts. We will still include our features here, but at the tumblr we will also post work by other women and girls, as well as behind-the-scene sketches from our in-house illustrator, Caitlin. Right now, you can check out all of our Fear Girls’ work!

Black Magic Cake

Bangs

Blossom

Alexandra Martinez is  23 and living/working in San Francisco. ‘Black Magic Cake’ is a part of a larger series based on the idea of a conceptual dessert cookbook, where the illustrations come from the names of the dessert recipes. A sexy, kitchy little dessert cookbook. Because Dessert + Sexy = good times.
“Blossom” is a part of a series of sketchy paintings, mostly just experimental musings. I watched this terribly amazing movie called “Trolls 2″ where people get turned into plants and eaten. That was the inspiration, but instead I made beautiful plant women.
“Bangs” is a self portrait sketch.

Flower

Shramana Patra is 16 and studying in the 11th grade in Calcutta, India. “I love designing wallpapers and short animations. I painted the picture of the ornamental flower on a parchment paper and thencovered it with a OHP transparent sheet. I drew an outline of the flower on the sheet with brush strokes of white paint. There are also bits of wax on the flower to give a 3 effect.”
